my ap psych teacher jokingly used the word “gay” as a pejorative and i didn’t call him out on it because

• i know he didn’t mean it ~that way~ he’s just trying to relate to a bunch of teenagers
• he’s a new teacher subbing in for the actual, qualified teacher and he’s really nervous and he already thinks i hate him 
• so why assert myself as the bitchy social-justice buzzkill so soon into the semester
• …i also use gay in a derogatory sense upon occasion
• but
• it’s okay for me to use it
• because i do so ironically
• and also that whole “dating someone of the same gender” thing
• like it is clearly acceptable for me to tease my girlfriend about being gay 
• and it is clearly unacceptable for an AP PSYCHOLOGY teacher to create the kind of classroom environment where a certain sexuality is wrong
• like how are we supposed to have legitimate discussions and be accepting of all forms of sexuality or attraction (because these are issues that are kind of inherent in the course) if he’s setting up that kind of environment from day one
